Shan’s gaze was wild and wanton; even Shana felt her heart skip a beat.
The guard avoided her provocative stare and shouted, “You claim to be a demon hunter? I know a thing or two about demon hunter combat—show me some moves so I can judge your identity!”
“Hahaha…” Shan burst into raucous laughter, her plump body shaking violently, exuding an irresistible allure. “What will you use to judge me? Your hands?”
Her words left the guard speechless and the witch stunned. Shana had never imagined that Shan, who’d seemed so straightforward along their journey, could be so brazenly lewd.
“Why haven’t you been staying in the dorm these past two nights?” While Shana and Fito were flustered, the Seer remained calm.
“I hear Seers use their abilities at night. I didn’t want you to investigate my identity, so I didn’t stay in the room.” Shan spread her hands, forming wolf claws with her fingers.
What is she doing? Shana hadn’t expected Shan to be so direct. She’d imagined countless times trading barbs with a werewolf, finally exposing their lies—but she’d never thought her opponent would confess outright.
“You… you’re admitting you’re a wolf?”
Shan smiled. “You already suspect I’m a wolf, so why ask?”
Orek’s voice was grave. “Whether you admit it or not doesn’t matter. I want to know why you killed Hannibal, and why he didn’t shoot his arrow.”
“Do wolves need a reason to kill humans?” Shan sneered. “As for why he held his arrow… maybe it’s because I dressed up like his wife. You know how it is—one moment of hesitation, and a hunter loses.”
“Do you think you’ve already won?” Orek stood between Shana and Fito, reminding the werewolf of their numbers.
“I’ve heard the Seer is the good guys’ eyes, the Guard and Witch are their left and right hands… hahaha…” Shan laughed again, her voice dripping with malice. “Watch me blind the eyes and cripple the hands of the good guys!” Her laughter cut off abruptly, her eyes turning sharp as blades. She leaped suddenly, flinging a spray of green liquid into the air.
Shana saw an indescribable green flash. “Oh no!” she thought, retreating quickly until her back hit the cold wall. She knew exactly what this move was.
“Boss!” Fito cried.
Orek and Fito were engulfed by the sudden green wave. Their clothes and skin quickly turned a glaring bright green, transforming them into strange creatures from a forest realm, their bodies glowing with an ominous light. An odd floral scent filled the air, mixing with the two divine beings’ shock and confusion as they stood frozen, green liquid dripping from their bodies, adding a surreal twist to the chaos.
She did steal my vials! Shana shouted and charged at Shan. “Take this poison!”
“Hahaha… Little Witch, you lost your vials—how can you poison me?” Shan leaped backward, running up the stone wall, landing on the ground, then jumping to the opposite wall. After two quick bounds, she’d retreated to the end of the corridor.
“Save your poison for the Seer and Guard! Hahaha!” With a taunt, Shan darted left and jumped out through a stone window.
“Damned werewolf!” Shana was furious and frustrated. She’d always called herself the “All-Round Genius Magic Maiden,” but in her first encounter with a werewolf, she’d been outmatched at every turn. She couldn’t accept this defeat.
Don’t you dare escape! Shana didn’t have time to check on Orek and Fito. She raced to the end of the corridor and jumped out the window too.
The corridor tower was dozens of feet high, but the stone wall was dotted with protruding rocks. Shana jumped down, using the rocks to vault her way toward the narrow square below.
“Stop! Stop!” Shana kept shouting.
Shan had already reached the square, but instead of fleeing when she saw the witch chasing her, she turned and lunged at Shana, claws outstretched.
Her wolf claws were sharp and lightning-fast. Shana was mid-air, unable to react in time, and was struck on the leg and shoulder.
I’m done! Shana lost her balance and crashed hard onto the hard sand. It felt like a thousand knives were stabbing into her body at once. She curled up involuntarily, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
“Novice witch, heh…”
Shana opened her eyes and saw Shan’s reddish-brown leather boots.
“I took down three divine beings alone—isn’t that a perfect play?” Shan looked down at the witch on the ground, triumphant. “Using the Witch’s poison to kill two divine beings… just thinking about it makes me giddy, hahaha…”
Shana wanted to scream for nearby guards, but the pain made her only able to whimper.
“Don’t waste your breath. Even if you call someone over, you’ll just add more bodies.” Shan raised her hand—her once pale, slender fingers had turned into sharp wolf claws. “Little Witch, it’s an honor to die by my hand. The genius magic maiden, defeated on her first mission, with a werewolf kill count of… zero! Hahaha…”
The wolf claw hung over her head, and her taunts echoed in Shana’s ears. Despair filled her heart.
Before she left, her master had warned her repeatedly: even though she knew a lot of magic, she lacked real combat experience. She’d been told to listen to her elder sisters, observe more, think more, speak less. She’d dismissed her master’s words, and now she’d suffered a crushing defeat.
Oh, I’m so regretful! Is this how the All-Round Genius Magic Maiden’s story ends… Shana closed her eyes.
Clang!
The wolf claw collided with a hard object, making a sharp metallic sound.
Shana opened her eyes. A silver shield had blocked the fatal blow. It was Guard Fito!
“Fito!” Shana cried out in surprise.
“You were hit by the Witch’s poison and you’re still alive?” Shan stepped back, her eyes filled with shock.
The guard was covered in green liquid, but he was completely unharmed.
Fito glanced at Shana and smiled lightly. “I’m wondering the same thing.”
“That’s the scent of green mandala!” Shana quickly scrambled to her feet, flinging a green water arrow straight at Shan.
The green liquid shot like a brilliant waterfall, covering Shan completely before she could dodge. Her body was coated in the sticky substance.
“Ah! Ah! Ah!”
Shan’s body began to shake, and she let out cries of despair and terror.
Soon, her clothes shattered, her bones creaked, and mottled green marks appeared on her skin, followed by thick gray fur. Her eyes changed, her limbs stretched, and fangs protruded from her mouth. She collapsed to the ground, her breathing heavy.
She’d turned into a wolf.
Shana stared in shock—it was her first time seeing a werewolf’s true form.
“What… what’s happening…” The Wolf Seductress lay on the ground, dying.
“You stole the wrong vial. That wasn’t poison—it’s my newly formulated peppermint and green mandala toner, for refreshing the skin.” Shana put her hands on her hips, beaming with satisfaction. The tide had turned in an instant, and she’d regained all her confidence as the “All-Round Genius Magic Maiden.”
She’d taken down her first werewolf, breaking her zero kill streak! No one would dare laugh at her for never killing a wolf again!
“Sorry, but you’re going to sleep forever now!” Shana smiled.
“Fate is cruel to beauty… I’m not ready to die… am I not beautiful anymore…”
In the empty narrow square, the Wolf Seductress let out a final, desperate howl.
