Chapter 25 · Wolf King

The crescent Blood Moon hung in the night sky, less than a hundred days from its full, crimson glory. A battle that would rewrite the thousand-year fate of the wolf clans was on the horizon. It was a blessing bestowed by the Wolf God upon his descendants, the perfect moment for the wolf clans to launch their ultimate challenge against humanity.

After the devastating defeat half a year ago, Will knew the stakes of this war all too well. He would not let his guard down this time. We must be fully prepared!

Will was willing to hear every perspective on this campaign—whether optimistic suggestions or pessimistic concerns, he would listen.

“Wolf, speak your mind freely.” Will’s tone grew sincere. For a moment, he set aside the Wolf King’s dignity, becoming the wolf comrade who had fought side by side with Wolf years ago.

“As you command.” Wolf bowed respectfully. “On paper alone, our combined wolf army may be slightly weaker than the human legion.”

“From our intelligence, the human legion stationed at the Great Wall has about 400 soldiers. Of these, 300 are original Great Wall troops. With reinforcements from the Golden Knights and Witch Coven, not only has their total strength increased, but the number of divine beings has risen to around 160.”

“For our side: the Black Wolf Army has 100 wolves, the White Wolf Army has 200, totaling 300 wolves. Among them, elite werewolves with combat power equivalent to divine beings number about 50.”

“Beyond being outnumbered, we have another disadvantage: the Frost Great Wall, enhanced by magic, gives the human army a massive edge.”

“Also, all these calculations are based on one big assumption—that the White Wolf Army is willing to cooperate with us…” Wolf paused, choosing his words carefully, then said slowly, “So this battle will be extremely difficult.”

Will nodded. He knew Wolf’s “extremely difficult” was a polite way to spare his pride. What he really meant was “we have no chance of winning.”

Will agreed with Wolf’s assessment. He had run through countless simulations in his mind, and on the surface, the wolf army was indeed at a disadvantage. But as someone had once told him, war was not a card game—things were never as simple as they seemed.

On the night of the full Blood Moon, the silver glow would turn crimson, a sacred moment when werewolf power awakened, boosting their combat strength tenfold. Wolf had not considered this, nor had he accounted for other hidden factors.

“I agree with some of what you said, but not all.” Will’s voice was deep.

“As you say, my King.”

“According to your tally, the human legion vs. our combined wolf army is 400 to 300—that’s correct. But regarding the number of divine beings vs. elite werewolves being 160 to 50, I have reservations.”

Will clasped his hands behind his back and walked slowly through the snow, his footsteps flanked by rows of bleached bones.

“The key lies with the Golden Knights. From what I know, the Golden Knights have 108 members, but only 12 are true Golden Knights. The rest are Silver Knights, Bronze Knights, or even apprentice riders. So despite their grand reputation, their actual combat power is not as formidable as it seems. That means the human legion’s real number of divine beings is around 60.”

“Hmm.”

Will noticed Wolf’s brow furrow, pulling at the scar on his face—clearly, he had doubts. Do you disagree? Will wondered. Wolf, always so fierce and eager for battle, seemed to fear the Golden Knights. Why?

Ah, those scars! He suddenly remembered that the scars on Wolf’s face were left by a Golden Knight. I forgot about that. I need to dispel his fear. If my top warrior lacks confidence, how can we win this war?

Will sighed. “Wolf, what’s the difference between humans’ Golden, Silver, and Bronze Knights?”

Wolf was slightly taken aback, then replied, “Human mages and warriors are ranked into five tiers: Holy Light, Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Iron Apprentice. Holy Light, Golden, and Silver-tier warriors or mages are called divine beings, their strength equivalent to our elite werewolves. Bronze and Iron Apprentice-tier warriors or mages fall between commoners and divine beings, similar to our ordinary werewolves.”

Will took over. “But in war, only Holy Light and Golden-tier divine beings pose a real threat to us. Silver-tier humans may be called divine beings, but they’re nothing to fear.” He paused, then added, “Do you remember Soth?”

“Of course.” Wolf sneered. “That knight wet himself when he saw us, couldn’t even hold his sword steady.”

Will was pleased with Wolf’s mockery. Good—that’s the Wolf I know.

“The Great Wall Legion originally had three Holy Light mages: Seer Orek, Magician Peter, and Dreamwalker Shu.” Will stared at the scar on his palm. “Now two of the three are dead. Only the Seer remains, and it seems he’s having some issues…”

“Still, he’s always been fond of tricks and deception—we can’t fully trust the rumors. Even if Orek is faking it, he’s the only real threat in the human legion. Together, you and I can take him down. The rest of the Great Wall Legion are nothing but vermin!”

“But there’s the Witch Coven…”

“Just a bunch of little girls with no real combat experience, hiding behind poison. They’re not worth mentioning.”

“And the Golden Knights…”

“Golden Knights are no match for you!” Will suddenly roared. “Those two scars on your face are badges of honor from defeating a Golden Knight!”

Wolf’s body trembled.

Will walked over and clapped him on the shoulder. “You are Wolf Fort’s greatest warrior, my chief Wolf Guard. You cannot hesitate for a single moment in this war. Humans are cowards, full of fear, suspicion, and weakness—easily crushed! They are no match for us!”

“Yes, my King.” Wolf’s gaze grew firm. “I will charge to the death for you.”

Perfect. That’s the attitude I need.

Will walked to his mount, leaped onto its back, and shouted, “Also, Wolf—remember, I haven’t put all my hope in the White Wolf Clan. Even if Old Watt refuses to cooperate, I have a backup plan! Wolves move at night! Let’s go!”

“As you command!” The Wolf Guards mounted their steeds in unison.

Just then, the sound of hooves echoed through the valley. Wolf Guard Ali, whom Will had just sent to deliver the message, galloped back. Behind him was another rider.

He’s back already? Will soon saw who was following Ali. The White Wolf pup! Will’s lips curled into a smile. He already knew the answer.
