Chapter 63 · Wolf King

A lurid blood moon hung high in the night sky, its crimson glow spilling over the snow-blanketed tundra.

Will stood atop Lone Peak, gazing down at the expanse where werewolves swarmed like ants.

On the tundra, the warriors of the Black Wolf Army stood rigid as pines, arrayed in a tight wedge formation, ready to charge the Frostwall across from them. The White Wolf Cavalry formed an arrowhead formation, their black banners emblazoned with white wolves fluttering high. Their war horses stamped restlessly, as if uneasy about the coming battle. Between the Black Wolf wedge and White Wolf arrowhead, three hundred Wild Wolf Cavalry roamed freely—though they seemed disorganized, they were grouped in trios, forming a hidden, intricate formation.

At my command, the wolf warriors will surge forth like a storm, flattening the Frostwall!

Will's chest burned with fiery resolve. He glanced back at the mountainside, where a winding silver ribbon stretched from the slope to the peak—the glint of cold steel from the White Wolf warriors' blades.

If we destroy the wall tonight, I'll erect a monument for every one of you!

For a long time, Will had harbored resentment toward the White Wolf clan. Even after the White Wolf King brought his entire clan to aid them, Will had thanked him outwardly, but deep down, he'd never fully reconciled. In recent days, he'd clashed repeatedly with Old Watt over joint battle plans. Each time, Will had swallowed his pride to de-escalate, which only fueled his dislike for the White Wolves.

But as the final battle approached, seeing these warriors ready to die for the entire wolf race, his resentment vanished instantly, replaced by profound admiration and gratitude.

On the Blood Moon night, a werewolf's power surges tenfold!

We will fulfill our millennium-old vow and witness the glory of the wolf race together!

Will could feel his demonic essence thrumming in his veins, his body brimming with strength and battle lust. He felt both eager and excited for the coming war.

The wolf blade hungers!

Will hadn't felt this way in a long time. He wasn't sure if it was the "Gift of the Wolf God"—after all, this was his first Blood Moon night.

He stared at the Frostwall spanning the opposite side of Lone Peak, silently praying: I hope when the battle begins, I'll truly witness the terrifying might of a werewolf under the Blood Moon!

"Cough, cough…" A sound came from behind him.

Will turned to see Old Watt, the White Wolf King, being helped up the peak by a young white wolf, his steps unsteady.

You old coot! Finally showed up!

Dragging your feet on purpose to assert your authority?

Will kept his face impassive and said: "Uncle, we're all ready."

Hurry up!

Old Watt didn't even glance at Will. He hunched over and slowly walked past him.

Will watched his back, cursing inwardly: You old fool! Putting on airs in front of me! After the battle, I'll show you who's boss!

"Shentu." Old Watt rasped.

"At your service." The Chief White Wolf Cavalry, waiting by the cliff, stepped quickly to his side.

"Are the wing harnesses ready?" the White Wolf King asked.

"Master, one hundred wing harnesses have been brought to the peak." Shentu said.

"One hundred?" Old Watt shook his head. "Not enough, not enough… cough, cough…"

Shentu looked at Will: "They only prepared one hundred."

You White Wolves looking for trouble?

Will's brow furrowed, but he quickly calmed his expression: "Uncle, one hundred white wolves, one hundred wing harnesses—that's the right number, isn't it?"

Old Watt rolled his eyes: "You've been insisting the White Wolves launch two waves of suicide attacks. If the first wave takes the hundred harnesses, what will the second wave wear?"

Will's anger flared.

You old coot! It was you who insisted we only send one hundred white wolves on the suicide mission! That's why I told Yu to prepare one hundred harnesses! Now you're blaming me?

What the hell are you trying to do!

Will glared at Old Watt, but he didn't bother explaining. He just said flatly: "Uncle, it's too late to prepare more harnesses now."

Let's cut the crap and get to the point!

"A battle must be fully prepared before it begins… cough, cough… we can't rush into it without the right tools…"

Dammit!

The army is already at the wall, and you're saying this?

Will felt his demonic essence growing hotter. He wanted to hurl a Wolf Spear straight through Old Watt.

Damn it! If we don't fight the humans today, we'll fight you White Wolves!

Right now!

Just as Will's anger reached its peak, a dim golden-purple radiance fell from the night sky. The figure of the Curse Fox emerged slowly from the light.

"The first hundred white wolf warriors attacking the Frostwall don't need wing harnesses." Yu flicked his silver-white hair, which fell to his waist, spun once in midair, and landed gracefully beside Will.

Little fox…

Seeing Yu, Will's anger cooled by half.

"I've taught the White Wolves the Flight Leap Curse. With the spell, they can leap straight from the peak to the Frostwall." Yu said, fanning himself with a purple fan while resting the other hand on his hip.

"Cough, cough…" The White Wolf King burst into another fit of coughing.

"Father!" The young white wolf stepped forward to support his arm.

"Uncle, if you're unwell, go back and rest." Will said in a deep voice. Don't cause trouble right before the battle!

"I'm fine." Old Watt waved him off, then said: "You taught them the Flight Leap Curse, but can you guarantee every white wolf has mastered it? We White Wolves aren't as clever as the Black Wolves."

Will snorted: Ugh!

Yu smiled: "I checked—some white wolves haven't fully mastered the curse, but no more than fifty. I told those who aren't proficient that the wing harnesses are for them, so we have more than enough."

"Cough, cough…" Old Watt coughed for a while, then said slowly: "If the harnesses are fine, let me think if there's anything else…"

I think you're the one with a problem!

Will was truly exasperated. He couldn't understand why Old Watt had brought the White Wolf Army if he didn't want to fight. You're not looking for problems—you're just picking a fight!

"Father, don't worry. Everything is ready. We just need your order." The young white wolf said.

"Be cautious, always cautious. Remember, Xue, when you become Wolf King, you must be cautious in everything you do—especially war. Cough, cough…"

Even the young wolf is fed up with your nonsense! Will shook his head inwardly.

After catching his breath, Old Watt continued: "Another thing—there are human scouts around Wolf God Mountains…"

"Father, rest assured. The White Wolf Cavalry has cleared all scouts within ten miles." The young white wolf said.

Is this your White Wolf Cavalry's solo achievement? Without Yu using the Ghost Eye Curse to scan the mountains, could you have found the scouts? Bullshit!

But he didn't want to stir up more trouble, so he turned away and said nothing.

"Alright, if everything is fine… cough… then, then you give the order…" Old Watt sat down against a boulder.

"Father?"

"I'm tired standing. I want to rest. Don't mind me… cough, cough…" Old Watt panted.

"Yes, Father! Rest easy—I'll command the battle!"

Will felt another surge of irritation: The old wolf is bad enough! Who do you think you are? Why should you command?

Then the young white wolf tilted his head back and let out three long howls.

"Awooooo—Awooooo—Awooooo—"

The white wolf's howl was desolate yet wild, like a call from the ancient Wolf God, shaking every werewolf on Lone Peak touched by the Blood Moon's glow.

After the three howls, a rustling sound filled the peak. Wolf shadows flickered through the forests and snow-covered rocks—white wolves from all over the mountains rushed toward the peak.

In an instant, the peak was crowded with white wolves. They knelt halfway toward Old Watt and the young white wolf.

"Brothers! The time for revenge has come! We will show our true strength! Take back everything we've lost!" The young white wolf raised his wolf blade and shouted: "We will witness the glory of our clan together!"

"Kill! Kill! Kill!" The white wolves roared in unison, their voices shaking the sky.

That's my line…

Will stared at the young wolf's self-important demeanor, feeling intense dislike. He shifted his gaze to the opposite side of Lone Peak—the snow-cloaked Frostwall stood tall, piercing the clouds, like a giant dragon winding across the tundra, imposing and inviolable.

Victory or defeat hangs on this moment. Will thought.

"The long night has come! Charge!" The young white wolf shouted the battle order.
