Will's heart was a tangled mess—relief that victory seemed within reach, tangled with a strange emptiness and grief.
Did I win? Will stared blankly at Old Watt.
No! This isn't victory!
He wasn't my enemy—he was my uncle.
No matter how much we clashed before, we stood on the same side in the end!
Will clenched his paws so tightly his claws dug into his palms, using the pain to force himself to stay sharp.
The battle isn't over yet!
The rise and fall of the wolf race rests on my shoulders now!
He saw Xue, the young white wolf, kneeling before Old Watt's body, his face twisted with shock, helplessness, and sorrow.
Will understood that feeling—it was exactly how he'd felt when he heard the old Wolf King had died, right before the Battle of Wild Wolf Valley.
"Xue, this is no time for grief—we're in the middle of a battle." Will said.
The young wolf's body trembled slightly.
"Remember the history I told you? Beyond that wall is our ancestral home. We're going home now. This is the wish of every wolf—and your father's wish too." Will sighed. "Right now, the White Wolves are waiting for your decision. The entire wolf race is watching you—even your father. If you don't have the spirit to fight, you won't be worthy to enter the Wolf Fort Crypt after death, to lie beside your father…"
Xue lifted his head. Will saw tears glistening in his eyes, but they didn't fall.
"I will take that wall!" He stood slowly.
Stronger than I thought! Will was surprised.
Xue took a deep breath and called: "Shentu!"
"At your service!" Shentu, who'd been kneeling before Old Watt's body, stood up instantly.
"Send word! Order all White Wolves below the peak to climb up immediately!"
"Yes!" Shentu didn't hesitate for a second, sprinting down the mountain.
Will watched, secretly impressed.
The old king is dead, and the new king gives an order—Shentu obeyed without a word, no delay at all. Truly a seasoned warrior!
He knew the battlefield could shift in an instant; they couldn't let Old Watt's sudden death throw them into chaos.
Thinking of the White Wolf warriors who'd died in suicide attacks, Will felt even more moved:
White Wolf warriors are loyal, brave, and decisive—each one is the cream of the wolf race!
Father always said the White Wolves were the elite of our kind. I never believed him until today. Now I'm convinced, from the bottom of my heart!
With that, Will let out a long sigh.
"Something to say?" Xue wiped the unshed tears from his eyes.
"Nothing. You've decided to go all in. So we must win." Will said.
Xue's voice was cold: "As if I need you to tell me that! White Wolf warriors didn't die for nothing!"
Will was startled. He saw that the young wolf, fresh from losing his father, wasn't weak—his eyes had grown even colder and more ruthless.
Has he grown this fast?
A commotion erupted below Lone Peak. Will looked down to see the White Wolf Cavalry, arrayed in formation on the tundra, dismount and transform into swift black shadows, racing up the peak.
Obedient, swift, and unyielding!
The White Wolf Cavalry truly lived up to their reputation!
In the blink of an eye, the low peak was crowded with White Wolves again. After climbing up, they bowed to Old Watt's body, then stood silently, waiting for orders. The whole process was orderly—not a single wolf cried or made a fuss.
My Black Wolf Army could never do that. Will sighed again, glancing at Old Watt's body: Uncle, you trained your troops well all these years!
Good thing I didn't choose to fight you—otherwise, I would've been in for a tough time!
Tiny icicles and a thin layer of frost had formed on Old Watt's body, but his face still held a smile, as if responding to the praise from his former rival.
"All White Wolves listen up! The wall has a crack! A once-in-a-millennium chance is before us! We must launch a second wave of suicide attacks! We will take that wall!"
"Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Will watched Xue shout to his troops, and saw signs of madness in his face.
No! He's not in the right state of mind!
I can't let him take control!
Will moved quickly to Yu's side, whispering: "Go down and tell Wolf that Old Watt is dead. I'm in command now. Tell the Black Wolf Army and Wild Wolf Cavalry to get ready."
Yu smiled: "Don't they already only take orders from you?"
"Stop talking! With the battle about to start, we need to make it clear! To prevent any wolves from getting confused!"
"Fine!"
As the fox was about to descend, Will grabbed her arm.
"Has the new Dark Pact taken effect?"
"You already made the deal with Beatrice, right? She'll update the pact terms for you. Don't worry—the Wraith Rider will definitely obey your orders." Yu grinned slyly.
Good.
A few days earlier, Will had secretly ordered Yu to trade with Beatrice—to revise the Dark Pact and gain control over the Wraith Rider, Haywood. His original plan was to have the Wraith Rider kill Old Watt after the wall fell, so he could reclaim the throne. For this, he'd paid the black market merchant six hundred Obsidian coins—the same as he'd spent on the Wild Wolf Cavalry.
But now the situation had changed, and Will had to adjust his plan:
Besides taking the wall, I need to think about what comes after the battle.
Once that's done, the White Wolves will have no use left. They can't be allowed to ruin everything!
Shortly after Yu flew down the mountain, a deafening explosion echoed in the sky, and brilliant flames lit up the night.
"Detonate!"
The White Wolves' new attack had begun!
This wave was different: ten wolves leaped into the air and detonated at the same time, forming a single massive fireball mid-sky.
The fireball, carrying the White Wolves' rage, slammed into the Frostwall. The moment it hit, the explosion lit up the surroundings. The god-built wall roared under the impact.
Debris flew everywhere, and smoke filled the sky.
That sound is different! Will noticed the change.
One after another, massive fireballs slammed into the same spot on the wall in quick succession, each impact booming like thunder.
The ancient ramparts' cracks widened under the relentless assault.
We have a chance!
Will's heart raced as he watched the White Wolves' attack rain down like a storm of fire.
Keep going! Keep going!
Finally, the tenth fireball struck the wall. A huge stone block fell, and the Frostwall collapsed with a thunderous crash!
Will stared, dumbfounded:
We did it!
We actually did it!
The god-built wall that had stood for a thousand years, stretching across the tundra, had finally been breached!
The history of the wolf race is about to be rewritten!
No—already rewritten!
I, Will, am the creator of this legend!
Will couldn't contain his excitement. He tilted his head back and let out a howl full of passion.
"Awooooo—Awooooo—"
Under the blood moon, the Wolf King howled. His long, mournful cry seemed to tell the wolf ancestors of their descendants' great feat—the heirs of the Demon Mountains were finally going home!
After the howl, the Wolf King leaped off the peak's low slope, his body light as a leaf. He flipped several times in the air before landing precisely in front of the wolf army on the tundra.
Will's eyes blazed as he scanned the Black Wolf Army and Wild Wolf Cavalry, standing ready. These warriors had just witnessed the White Wolves' shocking suicide attack, and their eyes shone with the excitement of witnessing a legend, and the hunger for the coming battle.
This is a once-in-a-millennium moment in wolf history!
No need for words! Just kill!
Will pointed at the collapsed wall and shouted: "Kill them all!"
The Wolf King's order ignited the army's battle lust. The Black Wolf Army and Wild Wolf Cavalry charged the Frostwall with the force of an avalanche.
